Rick Mitchell

As to what I do now....I am a staff pathologist at
Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston; my specialty interest is
cardiovascular pathology, and I am heavily involved in the heart
transplant community. I am also an associate professor of pathology at
Harvard Medical School (with a joint appointment at MIT), and am the
course director for the pathology course there as well as one of the
junior-level Deans for students (kind of like a glorified guidance
counselor). My time gets split between clinical activities, administrative
activities, teaching, and basic research concerning the mechanisms of heart transplant rejection (my lab does heart
transplants on mice!!).
I've been happily married now for 23 years
(Diane is
a Nurse Practitioner at Babson College), with a son, Matt (16) and a
daughter, Becky (13), and three (!!) golden retrievers. For fun and
relaxation I coach youth basketball and Babe Ruth baseball, and love doing
home improvement projects (I'm on a first-name basis with all the folks at
Home Depot). We live in Natick (Native American for "Land of a
Thousand Malls"), a suburb about 15 miles west of Boston. If any of
you are ever in the vicinity, please feel free to call and visit!
I think the next time I'll be in Torrance would be
Christmas, which may not be the best time for a picnic at La Romeria.
More later, Rick
